Automobile declaration procedures.

By phone, as soon as possible, at the number indicated on your contract or on the insurer's website. The insurer will record the file and take care to explain the steps to be taken. By mail or directly at an agency, to send all the documents requested by the insurer. What documents should I send to the insurer? First of all, remember to make a photocopy of the documents sent to the insurer, to keep a record in the event of loss of mail or other contingency related to the processing of your file.
• A letter of declaration of automobile accident, specifying the following elements: place, date and time of the accident, circumstances, damage caused, possible difficulties encountered during the drafting of the mutual agreement with a third party (other driver, pedestrian, witness, etc.) ), place where the vehicle is for the expert's passage. The blank form "declaration" found in the mutual insurance booklet can replace this letter of declaration of loss.
• The section of the amicable report of automobile accident that you recovered. Attention, once the report signed by the two drivers, it is no longer possible to add or correct mentions: see our article on the drafting of the mutual report. In all cases, and even if the other driver was unable or unwilling to complete the report, send your report with the part concerning you fully completed. If you do not have a report, a declaration on free paper is possible.
• In the event of theft, a copy of the complaint made to the police station or the gendarmerie. If necessary, and to help the insurer fully understand your claim, you can also attach to the mandatory documents above:
• Photos of the vehicles involved and, if necessary, of the accident site to support your statements.
• The report of the police or gendarmerie authorities establishing the circumstances of the accident.
• Any testimony from third parties on the circumstances of the incident. Be careful to note the identity and contact details of witnesses so that their statements can possibly be used as evidence when designating responsibilities.
